Binny and Family Official Trailer Review

The trailer opens with a brief view of a rebellious young girl Binny who is from London by birth. She is not a typical teenager, Binny is punk, and rebellious at times and she loves to live her own life. But things change dramatically when she brings her traditionalist father from a village in Bihar to live with her family. Oh, where do I even begin: this is a cultural difference at its finest (or at its worst depending on how you look at it.

Binny tries to explain modern-day gadgets to her grandfather in the trailer. How about having to explain to a learner how to use an iPhone for instance when the same learner thinks that an old-school rotary phone is state of the art! Binny’s annoyance and grandpa’s puzzled looks are enough to bring a smile to your face.

Binny and her grandfather became friends later. Sometimes they sit and share their past experiences and this part shows that they are gradually developing affection towards one another. It is a message that always shows that even the Wall has a Family on the other Side.

Pankaj Kapur Acting in Binny and Family

Pankaj Kapur, the actor who plays the grandfather role could have done a much better job as the ‘Sansui’ moments got hammy at times with him using his usual element of charm and wit. I like that he is good at working in the timing, and he develops this character a lot.

A special mention should also go to the upcoming Anjini Dhawan, who plays Binny’s role in the movie. She just perfectly embodies the protagonist of a modern teenage girl who wants to be free but is still forced to respect the family’s traditions.

It also throws in some dramatic turns too as can be seen from the trailer. One episode contains a segment where Binny and her grandfather come face to face with a big task. Just like this preview would carry us through different emotional states, lots of jokes and potentially some moments of drama and sadness.

Binny and Family: Visuals

The visuals are bear as well. There is a connection between the opposite environment of London’s concrete jungle and Bihar’s jungle. The cinematography also does a great job in setting apart Binny and her grandfather’s worlds and it just makes their journey more interesting.
